Welcome to GBCSL

Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL) is a consensus-based not for profit organization, committed to developing a sustainable property industry for Sri Lanaka by encouraging the adoption of green building practices. It is diverse and integrated representation from all sectors of the property industry and academia.

GBCSL functions through its main sectors of GREENSL® Rating of Buildings, GREENSL® Labelling of Sustainable Building Materials and Products, GREENSL® Service certification for Green Service suppliers and Education & Training of Green Professionals aiming to transform the Sri Lankan construction industry with green building practices and to fully adopt sustainability as the means by which our environment thrives, economy prospers and society grows to ensure the future wellbeing of our motherland.

The GBCSL is the only representative member in Sri Lanka,of the World Green Building Council, which represents a large number of countries ranging from developed to developing nations.

GBCSL awards

Globally recognized GBCSL awards are given for the successful candidates of GREENSL® Rating, GREENSL®Labeling and GREENSL®Service Certification and Green Contractors

  • Prof.Ranjith Dissanayake assumed office as the Chairman of Green Building Council of Sri Lanka at the 4th Annual General Meeting of GBCSL held in 8th August 2017

  • Prof.Priyan Mendis was appointed as the founder Chairman of Green Building Council of Sri Lanka in honor at the 4th Annual General Meeting of GBCSL held in 8th August 2017

  • Next Associate Professional Training Programme of Batch 18 is commenced on 20th October 2017

  • Annual Green Building Award 2017 is in December 2017

  • Green Projects – World Leading Organizations Committed to Green. New Warehouse of the Nestle Panala factory has completed its GREENSL® Rating. Results are to be released soon.

  • Green Projects – Schools committed to Green. New Building of the Royal Collage, Colombo 07 has completed its halfway of GREENSL® Rating of the building.

  • Green Projects- University Committed to Green. 18 new and existing buildings of Kotalawala Defense University have applied for GREENSL® Rating

  • Green Labeling – Nationally Internationally leading products Committed to Green Lanka Wall Tiles PLC is in the process of obtaining GREENSL® Label

  • Green Labeling - Nationally Internationally leading products Committed to Green Macksons Paints Lanka (pvt) ltd has successfully renewed its GREENSL® Labelling System for the turn 2015-2017

The Construction Industry Development Authority (CIDA) is an Government organization set up by the Government of Sri Lanka to develop and promote the domestic Construction Industry, Contractors, Professionals, Work Force, etc. with the Vision to create a reliable and globally competitive construction industry for Sri Lanka. Green Building Council of Sri Lanka and its Functions are recognized by CIDA since 2010.

The World Green Building Council is a network of national green building councils in more than 100 countries, making it the world’s largest international organization influencing the green building sustainability with the mission to strengthen green building councils in member countries by championing their leadership and connecting them to a network of knowledge, inspiration and practical support. With 100,000 buildings and almost one billion square meters of green building space registered, the influence and impact of this global network is a significant force for social and environmental change.
We are a member of WCBC since 2009 by achieving the specific set of criteria that are verified by WorldGBC to become a member and assure international recognition of GBCSL functions.
