Initiatives since 2020
The present executive committee formed on 12th March 2020, at the General Meeting of the Certified Green Professionals,to act as a movement which promotes and practises green building ideologies in Sri Lanka. Since then, a number of initiatives and projects are implemented by the Alumnae of GBCSL.
Being a movement very much externally relevant, when the Government of Sri Lanka invited the institutions, professionals and general public to submit proposals on development with/after CPVID 19, the Alumnae submitted a proposal through Green Building Council Sri Lanka (GBCSL) to the Presidential Task Force. The proposals had strategies to successfully continue the development activities in a sustainable manner and to generate a more conscious approach towards sustainable construction using the pandemic as an opportunity.
The Alumnae of GBCSL took the ownership of the above said proposals and acted as an implementing agency. Alumnae conducted a number of research activities, campaigns, and CSR activities to promote the sustainable approach in all segments of development.
Being professionals in the green building sector, the Alumnae of GBCSL took the responsibility of developing a comprehensive submission format of appendices of Green Certification Systems.
A research on the waste collection was conducted by the Alumnae of GBCSL which resulted in creating the E-Waste collection programme for public areas and supermarkets. The Alumnae of GBCSL is looking forward to implementing the program by partnering with like-minded stakeholders in the waste sector of Sri Lanka.
Alumnae of GBCSL partnered with the Parley international association in conducting a number of Beach Clean-up activities. These programs promoted marine diversity and created a responsible approach towards the waste disposal. Refurbishing a building near Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama is another initiative, as a CSR activity. The design and planning steps are in progress of the program.
