GREEN RATING SYSTEM FOR BUILT ENVIRONMENT
Buildings use energy and resources at an incredible rate. The Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL) provides a framework for affordable, healthy, and environmentally responsible buildings. GBCSL certification, which is widely regarded as a symbol of sustainability success, is recognized by a wide range of committed companies and people who are paving the way for market transformation.
Green building rating tools, usually referred to as sustainable building certifications, are used to evaluate and recognize buildings that adhere to specific sustainability standards or regulations.
Building certifications acknowledge and honor businesses and organizations who construct and manage greener buildings, encouraging and incentivizing them to push the frontiers of sustainability. By establishing standards, they jumpstart the market and raise the bar for corporate strategies, workforce development, and government construction laws and regulations. Different certifications take different approaches and can be used during a building’s planning and design, construction (New Construction), operation and maintenance (Existing Building) phases.

Wild Glamping Gal Oya is a semi-permanent luxury camping site that includes 03 spacious wooden tented camps for families with attached bathrooms, 07 double tented camps with attached bathrooms, an authentic linear restaurant with a curve-shaped bar and an infinity swimming pool. It is located in a 30-acre good practice agricultural farm in the Galoya Valley at Rathugala, in the Monaragala District of the Uva Province, Sri Lanka. Green Features The resort was architecturally designed to make maximum use of the views of the surrounding with mountains and savanna forests that merge with the nature. This Good Agricultural Practices is used that helps promote sustainable agriculture and contributes to meeting international environmental objectives. Grey water generated at the property is systematically recycled to reuse for sanitary purposes that reduces water wastage. Solar panels, as a renewable energy, placed on each of the tents and the restaurant produce a large amount of electricity for lighting and hot water. Locally available building materials such as earth brick, mud & clay, illuk grass and cadjan were used in innovative ways for the entire building that inspires sustainable construction. Reused doors, windows and furniture were used for the entire building as a cost-effective method and construction waste was also used for making furniture

The design criteria focus on maximized orientation, natural light, ventilation and preservation of existing green spaces. One fine example is the reorientation of the building location in order to save 40- year-old Dialium Ovoideum tree. To maximize infiltration in landscaping, efficient techniques such as ponds (POKUNA) and pervious pavers for parking areas are implemented. Water Efficient Water Closets, Urinals and Faucets are used to improve the water efficiency. The university employs innovative design concepts to reduce the material demand like keeping cafeteria with open walls to outdoors, slab finishes, use of post-tension slabs which reduces material consumption. With the upcoming development of the city, faculty can access hospitals, banks and retailing facilities within walking distances. This will improve the social wellbeing of the society and reduce the carbon footprint of individuals. All classrooms, offices, labs, library and other areas are located such that natural daylight is utilized. The common areas support to give a scenic view of the surrounding. Colored bins accessible within the premises for all waste collection, a limestone tank to neutralize the acids from laboratories before discharging in to the sewer system are the efforts taken to improve the waste management. Water Efficient Water Closets, Urinals and Faucets are used to improve the water efficiency. Also utilizing condensed water from air conditioners for landscaping reduces the demand on portable water. The Bank employs innovative design concepts to reduce the material demand like installing durra panel partition, slab finishes, which reduces material consumption. Banks can access hospitals, religious places, security facilities and retailing facilities within walking distances. This will improve the social wellbeing of the society and reduce the carbon footprint of individuals. All working stations excluding safe areas are located such that natural daylight is utilized and to give a scenic view of the surrounding. Waste bin with proper color identification accessible within the premises for all waste collection, central collection method for e-waste and paper waste are the efforts taken to improve the waste management. The regional office was funded by Asian Development Bank. Initially the main design objectives were to continue services to meet the growing demand in the regional water supply and drainage offering efficient and competitive service to the consumers with alternative energy used methods according to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). The Abstract form of the design was modified strategically to create practical two-dimensional plan forms and three-dimensional forming accordance with land and immediate context of regional dancing forms.
